about

"The Unheard Choir," the final track on Iska Dhaaf's UP ep, is a hauntly beautiful song about loss and separation from loved ones. From the opening notes, the song's gripping uptempo piano weaves and turns, surrounded by layers of warm guitar and atmospheric reverbs. Benjamin Verdoes's soft voice pirouettes as he intricately describes holding on to someone you love, saying, "You should know that I feel you now, that I carry you all around. Through the maze of veins you'll circulate til the blood is crystalline." The track is a constant build that grows into a glorious string arrangement, while percussion flutters and ethereal voices float in and out. Iska Dhaaf have created a truly memorable and empathic song with "The Unheard Choir."

lyrics

You should know that I feel you now
That I carry you all around
Through the maze of veins you’ll circulate
Til the blood is crystalline

You should know that I hear your voice
In the silence between the noise
In the songs you bring
I can hear you sing with the unheard choir

Our bodies disconnect
There’s always something left

You should know that I see you here
Where the faces disappear
In the empty space you congregate
With the souls in serpentine

In the embers of my dreams
I can keep you here with me
So I hold you close
I won’t let go in the final hour

Our bodies disconnect
There’s always something left
Even when our minds won’t recollect
There’s never nothing left

You’ll never be alone
